William Milberg is Professor of Economics at the New School for Social Research and Co-Director of the Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies at The New School.
His research focuses on the relation between globalization, income distribution and economic growth, and the history and philosophy of economics. He teaches courses in international trade, microeconomics and economic history.
In his most recent project, he edited two volumes on the relation between economy and democracy. One is “Beyond Neoliberalism and “Neo-illiberalism” (in The New). The other is “Challenges of Democracy and and the Future of Capitalism” (in Social Research). His previous book (with Deborah Winkler) is Outsourcing Economics: Global Value Chains in Capitalist Development (Cambridge University Press). A previous book, The Crisis of Vision in Modern Economic Thought (Cambridge University Press) was co-authored with the late Robert Heilbroner.
He serves on the Editorial Board of Politics and Society and The International Labour Review, and previously served on the steering committee of the group “Capturing the Gains from Globalization” based at the University of Manchester. He has worked as a consultant to the UNDP, the ILO, the UNCTAD and the World Bank and delivered the WTO Staff Lecture Series on global value chains and trade policy.
